GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Under the direction of the Director of Exceptional Children, the Process Specialist is primarily responsible for coordinating and conducting eligibility determinations to include assessments, reports, and monitoring for Indicator 11, as well as overseeing the manifestation determination process. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Chair initial eligibility meetings, including the presentation and analysis of reports; 
  • Oversees the manifestation determination process to include the monitoring of days of suspensions, coordinating with administrators, and facilitating meetings; 
  • Conducts professional development regarding eligibility and manifestation determinations; 
  • Participates in Transition C to B meetings with the Community Service Board; 
  • Collaborates with all stakeholders, including school teams, Head Start, private schools, and in-home providers; and 
  • Serve as the liaison with private schools for Child Find.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Virginia special education eligibility process; 
  • Confers with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis; 
  • Vast understanding of the disability categories and manifestations of each; 
  • Promptly and accurately handles routine matters involving reports, communication, and inquiries; 
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately to all stakeholders; 
  • Ability to analyze and interpret educational and psychological data;  
  • Maintains high degree of professional ethics in activities in school and community; 
  • Maintains respect for the worth and dignity of each student; 
  • Participates in professional meetings and serves on and contributes to special committees; 
  • Provides for professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure, with an endorsement in special education. 
  • A minimum of three years of satisfactory teaching experience in special education, with significant experience with the eligibility process 
  • Master’s degree preferred
