GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the direction and supervision of the Director I - Transportation Services and the Assistant Director of Transportation Services, the School Bus Driver performs intermediate semi-skilled support work in the transportation of pupils to and from school and special events; does related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Operates a school bus on an assigned route and schedule
- Picks up and transports children to school daily
- Transports individuals or groups for recreational and social activities
- Checks equipment and reports defects
- Washes buses
- Sweeps out interior of buses and cleans windows
- Reports accidents
- May operate special vehicles for transportation of special students
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of the issues involved in operating a school bus
- General knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streets
- Skill in the safe operation of a school bus
- Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment
- Ability to assist children using patience and understanding
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, public, associates and students
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required. |
