GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Principal, the Administrative Support Specialist III performs general bookkeeping, record keeping, accounting, and clerical duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepare receipts, maintain records for, and account for funds collected
- Prepare documentation for and make bank deposits
- Maintain general ledger accounts, check balances, and prepare financial reports
- Prepare requisitions and purchase orders, write and countersign checks
- Maintain pupil records
- Maintain textbook rental accounts
- Maintain insurance, yearbook, sports and other accounts
- Key letters, reports, and correspondence, as required
- Collect information for and maintain confidential files
- Perform difficult clerical and technical work involving the preparation and maintenance of fiscal and related records
- Perform general clerical duties
- Receive, welcome, and assist students, employees, parents, guardians, and the general public in a positive, effective manner when they visit the main office
- Assist students with medical needs in the absence of the School Nurse, as applicable
- Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of bookkeeping terminology and methods
- Thorough knowledge of standard office procedures and methods
- General knowledge of routine accounting principles
- Ability to maintain financial records and prepare reports and statements
- Ability to make arithmetical computations quickly and accurately
- Ability to post accounts with speed and accuracy
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instruction
- Ability to operate a variety of office machines
- Ability to deal effectively with students, administrators, co-workers, and the general public
- Ability to type at a reasonable rate of speed
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by business school or accounting courses and some experience in general account keeping
- Associate’s degree or higher preferred
