Description | General Definition of Work
Under the supervision of the Principal, the Head Custodian is responsible for assisting in the supervision of Custodians and maintaining safe and clean school buildings and facilities for students, staff and visitors.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the supervision of Custodians
- Perform routine semi-skilled custodial work in the care and cleaning of school buildings
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with site staff, parents and visitors, officials and employees
- Organize daily activities and maintain scheduled duties
- Sweep or dust mop floors daily in assigned area
- Vacuum carpets daily and /or shampoo carpets as needed to maintain in good condition
- Scrub and clean toilets including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, sinks, etc., fill tissue, towel, and soap dispensers
- Dust furniture, walls, window sills, baseboards, chalk trays, and other woodworks
- Wash walls, woodwork, blinds, etc.
- Clean drinking fountains
- Clean and polish brass or other metal fixtures
- Clean any area as required for accidents and illnesses, including during lunch periods
- Move furniture as required
- Spray, buff, scrub, strip, and refinish all types of floors
- Secure buildings
- Remove trash from building and place in dumpster
- Shovel snow, cut grass, trim shrubbery, etc.
- Maintain availability 24 hours a day if necessary due to emergency or snow removal operations
- Maintain and clean equipment and storage rooms
- Maintain building in a safe, clean condition and report needed repairs or any emergency/safety issue to Building Principal and Maintenance Staff
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
